No CommentsWhen Catherine had an accident and was left with a permanent disability, she had no other option but to turn to residential aged care for support. After giving it much thought, she decided not to go for it. According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW), as of 1st July 2018, there were around 6000 young people with complex disabilities living in aged care.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the 4million plus Australians living with disabilities along with their caregivers and families, requiring support the NDIS has made further efforts ensuring the ease and accessibility of accessing services.

An estimated $85million have been set aside for distribution amongst the applicants of the Information, Linkages and Capacity building program (ILC) meant to grant the required funds for the continued operation of many service platforms helping people facing disabilities.

Where the NDIA as well as the NDIS are meant to ensure that participants , their caregivers and families overall has the appropriate resources for the duration of the Covid-19 pandemic, it must also be noted that all resources being limited require stringent planning and procedures to ensure the 4 million plus Australians have access to the services.

In these difficult times, with the Covid-19 outbreak, agencies, and organizations from all over Australia, have come together to adapt and change the way support is provided across the board. It is apparent that the issue of resources has been brought to the fore and Government has announced a raft measures and packages to deal with the crisis.
